Retinol
In recent years Retinol has been considered as one of the most effective cosmetic ingredients, and is contained in quite a few cosmetic preparations, especially those designed for skin regeneration and rejuvenation. What exactly is retinol and how does it work?

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A, which has proven effectiveness in delaying the aging of skin, while rejuvenating and restoring it. Upon application to the skin, it breaks down and becomes a retinoic acid that acts on the skin cells. It increases cell turnover and accelerates the regeneration of the epidermis (upper skin layer), and helps to create healthy skin cells with normal shape and function. At the same time, it also works in the dermis layer (the middle skin layer). In fact, it is one of the few components whose molecule is small enough to penetrate the dermis – where it accelerates repair and restoration processes, increases the production of collagen and elastin, of proteins essential for maintaining the structure and elasticity of the skin, and of substances that moisturize the skin, e.g. hyaluronic acid. Indeed, studies show that long-term external application of retinol significantly accelerates collagen production, helps maintain skin structure and strength, rejuvenates the skin, works to blur wrinkles, and helps smooth the skin texture.

Retinol also helps regulate the production of melanin (the pigment that protects the skin from sunlight), and has been proven to have the ability to repair accumulated skin damages related to sun exposure, and even lighten pigmentation spots.

Despite the proven effectiveness of retinol, one of the controversial issues among researchers for years was the question of its stability in cosmetic preparations. Newly developed technologies now enable better stabilization of retinol in those preparations, and thereby, achieve good results. This is done by encapsulating the substance – that is, encasing it in milicapsules, which are opened only upon contact with the skin. Thus, the substance remains stable and active. Another important advantage of the capsules is that they insulate it from oxidizing agents, such as light.

Combining retinol with other ingredients such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids, and antioxidants such as vitamin C makes the preparation even much more effective, as these ingredients work in combination with retinol and complement the skin restoration.

The restoring combination

In order to achieve particularly impressive results in skin restoration, HL Laboratories has developed the ABR COMPLEX. The secret behind this line is the combination of alpha and beta hydroxy acids, with retinol and other active ingredients, including vitamin C. Studies examining the effectiveness of alpha and beta hydroxy acids have found that their combination with retinol and antioxidants such as vitamin C – which have anti-inflammatory and rejuvenation properties – provides better results in improving skin texture and its rejuvenation, compared to use of the acids seperately.

This powerful

combination produces a very effective treatment, which leads to noticeable results in the short and long run, in lightening sun spots and pigmentation, in reducing the depth of wrinkles and laugh lines, and in creating a radiant and healthy skin appearance.

New from HL! Restoring serum – from the ABR complexline

This powerful serum works to renew the skin and slow down the aging process. It contains alpha and beta hydroxy acids in particularly high concentrations that work to remove dead skin cells. Another component is retinol, stored in milicapsules, which helps in accelerating the rate of cell renewal, reducing wrinkles and improving skin texture and tone.

The active ingredients in the restoring serum and their benefits:

  • Alpha hydroxy acids that are extracted from fruits and considered highly effective in restoring and rejuvenating the skin.
  • Beta hydroxy (salicylic) acid that works in the deeper layers of the epidermis and serves as an anti-inflammatory component.
  • Retinol (a derivative of vitamin A), which boosts the regeneration of skin cells, improves blood circulation and oxygen supply to the skin, and gives the skin a more even and radiant appearance.

Encapsulation technology – the benefits of encapsulated retinol:

Retinol is a light-sensitive substance. Encapsulation protects it from oxidation and direct exposure to light. Retinol, which is a lipophilic molecule, “prefers” to be in its natural environment. The milicapsules enable the retinol to be in a reservoir until the moment it is applied to the skin. Thus, with each application, the skin receives the maximal desired concentration.

Tips for perfect skin this fall

With the end of summer, autumn slowly makes its way and with it colder weather with winds that can affect the epidermis and lead to a lack of suppleness. Due to the climate change and the changes in the environment the skin is more vulnerable to dryness with a rough and flaky texture lacking in elasticity and glow. As soon as autumn appears it is recommended to update the home care regimen and begin to actively correct and restore damage that was caused over the summer months from excessive and unprotected exposure to sun.
